The Position:

Sitters Without Borders is looking for a dynamic leader to help the organization make the transition from a small volunteer led operation to a professional service organization. Reporting to Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will be responsible for overseeing SWOB’s success in meeting its vision, mission, strategies and objectives. Success is driven by the organization’s effectiveness in program management, administration, fundraising, marketing, communications and community outreach. The position is part-time, unbenefited with flexible hours and ability to primarily work from home.  Candidate must be local to the Boston area.


  1. The candidate must be driven, self-starter, well-rounded non-profit professional eager to develop and operate a small non-profit.
  2. Candidate should have proven leadership and relationship management experience. Small to medium sized non-profit management experience is a plus.
  3. Development experience a priority, especially in fundraising and capacity growing.
  4. Financial skills; ability to develop and manage a budget.
  5. Strong communications, marketing and public relations skills.   Must communicate effectively with donors, collaborators, clients, volunteers and board members.
  6. Computer skills, including, MS Office, Google products.


Leadership & Management:

  1. Ensure excellent operations, including recruitment, enrollment, relationship management between Families and Sitters, track scaling progress, evaluate program and its effect.
  2. Active engagement with volunteers, families, board and funders.
  3. Lead, coach and mentor part-time employee and/or interns.  
  4. Ensure consistent quality of finance, admin, fundraising, communications and systems.

Fundraising & Communications:

  1. Build revenue sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.
  2. Work with the Board to develop and execute a fundraising program by determining the optimal mix of funding from grants, individuals, events, or other sources.  
  3. Deepen and refine all aspects of communications –from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating stronger brand.
  4. Maintain and continue building a donor database.  
  5. Expand upon partnerships with universities and other organizations.
  6. Build relationships with political and community leaders in the Greater Boston Area.
  7. Manage and grow donor relations, grant writing and communication with foundations.

Hours: 16-20 hours/week.  Flexible. Primarily work from home.
